Selecting Gear Size
Workign out the clearances for the gear size it not easy.
My orignal sketch in Tinkercad looked like this:-
But sketching out the motor size and the gear size, identifies a problem.
The clearance is ((gear_size)-(Motor_size))/2 or just two thicknesses of 3mm. Not enough to get the rails and support in the model above. Time to fire up the gear generator on inkscape again. I am looking for clearance of 12mm, so a total gear height of around, 44+12+12 = 68 with a circular pitch of 10mm (to fit the gap in the belt). Where CIRCULAR PITCH (p) is the distance along the pitch circle or pitch line between corresponding profiles of adjacent teeth. Inkscape Conversion between the units is fairly straightforward: 1 inch = 1/12 ft = 2.54 cm = 25.4 mm = 0.0254 m = 6 pc = 72 pt. 72/2.54 = 10mm in pt or circular pitch (28.4).
So I draw a 68 x 68 box and then generated a gear.
Tweakign and overlaying the "tank" sections, I ended up with 69 x 69 mm
Putting this back into the sketch, we have a slight difference, which I can add to the base lazer cut instructions.
